Isaiah 40:1-11; Psalm 85:1-2, 8-13; 2 Peter 3:8-15a; Mark 1:1-8

Comfort, comfort, my people; with so many voices dying and pleading for God’s presence out in the wilderness, nothing could be more healing to the Community of Saints than Isaiah’s proclamation. Mark, the evangelist, wants us to know that the comforting good news of the Son of God begins indeed with repentance. However, this gospel’s very nature is the fulfillment of the hope which God always has for us. Every hill is made low, and every valley is lifted up for the divine shepherd-envoy who brings us nothing but the assurance of sins forgiven so we may be fully repaired, blameless, ready for a new heaven and a new earth.
